We were blessed with more beautiful September sunshine at the weekend, so we decided to make the most of it and go for a woodland walk to gather some natural materials for an art project. Nature scavenging is the perfect opportunity to discuss the seasons with young children. As we gathered different coloured leaves and fallen nuts, Banana and I discussed Autumn and how and why the world outside changes.
We decided to visit a new wood and Duckling was delighted to see that there was a field with horses, just before the entrance.
We enjoyed the woods with the sunshine speckling through the leaves.
We squelched through muddy woodland paths,
We came to an opening in the wood, where we enjoyed the late afternoon sunshine
Rolled down hills:
Did some cloud watching,
And had lovely, quality time together,
After this, we made our way back through the wood and gathered some more treasure on the way:
Here is the treasure we collected…
All ready to do something creative! Hooray!

What a great walk. We were scavaging for acorns, blackberries and conkers during a walk yesterday. The conkers aren’t quite ready where we are. We’ll be going back for another look in the next few weeks. #countrykids

What a glorious collection and I love the photo of them walking along holding hands! It’s a beautiful time of year and I feel fortunate to be visiting in such a mild autumn too (I’ve left behind spring storms in Wellington, New Zealand!). Whilst staying here my Miss 6 has loved collecting blackberries and observing conkers etc.

I’m guessing this is where you collected the lovely things for your mud printing. What a gorgeous area you have around you and so lovely to have the time to explore and teach the children about nature. It looks like they are having the best time exploring and discovering. I do hope the sunny days continue.
Thank you for sharing with me on #CountryKids
