Muddy Monday #6 -Finger Paint Autumn Tree

I haven’t been online that much in the last week. My house has been full of yucky flu. So far I’ve escaped the lurgy  but hubby and the two girls have been really poorly, so I’ve been playing nurse. Everyone seems to be on the mend now, thankfully. It did mean, however that we haven’t been getting outdoors as much as we like. I didn’t want to not do Muddy Monday, so I decided that just for this week, we’d bring the fun indoors, whilst sticking to an outdoor theme.

I have recently seen some lovely art on Pinterest with finger paint leaves falling from an Autumn tree, I thought it made a really effective piece of art and decided that it would be a good opportunity to talk about Autumn colours and colour mixing.

First we mixed together green and red paint to make brown and I painted a quick tree trunk and branches onto a piece of A3 paper each.

We talked about which colours would make the most effective autumnal tree and Banana decided on red, orange, yellow, brown and green. We spoke about what we needed to mix to make orange and brown and then I modelled the process of finger painting, which both girls were able to do independently.

They both really enjoyed this activity, it was lovely to get messy for a bit and really helped combat the boredom of 3 days off school. They were able to create a lovely piece of art, Banana independently and Duckling with minimal help.
