Remember, Remember the 5th of November!
Do you remember this date, and celebrate bonfire night? We do. My family and I love seeing the beautiful colours light up the pitch black sky, the smell of wood burning and gun powder (or whatever they put in fireworks!) the taste of hotdogs, chestnuts and bonfire toffee.
This year, bonfire night conveniently fell on a Saturday, which meant we had the entire day to celebrate. I decided that an appropriate, kid centred activity for the daytime would be to try our hand at making chocolate apples, which was great fun:
First we put some plastic spoons into the apples (safer and more convenient than wooden skewers)
Next we melted some milk chocolate in a bowl over a pan of water. The children then dipped their apples into the melted chocolate, and then a bowl of hundreds and thousands:
We then left them in a cool place to set for a few hours and voila!
After a simple bonfire supper of hotdogs and onions and spicy potato wedges, it was dark enough to go in the garden for some sparklers!
And finally, we went off to an organised show to watch a wonderful firework display!
It was a really great, although rather cold!! (We may even get a proper winter this year!)
What are your bonfire night traditions?

Sounds like fun! We don’t have that night here in the US… but I love the idea of making chocolate covered apples! Yum.

I love bonfire night too but we didn’t do all that much this year as our second child is just 5 months. I love your chocolate apples.

Looks like great fun. We don’t do anything for Bonfire night although my hubby took our eldest to a fireworks display. #whatevertheweather

Yay for chocolate apples! We made some too, love toffee apples too, but not good for kids teeth. It looks like you had a great time with the kids and had a lively bonfire night, we loved our local firework display too! #Whatevertheweather x
